Five beauty essentials to glam up your glamping

Brightly coloured wellies. Check. Flower headband. Check. Ripped denim shorts. Check. Aztec print cardigan. Check.

Once your wardrobe is ticked off, it’s time to up your glamping game with some festival beauty essentials. Festivals are the perfect place to test your ability to pack lightly – you don’t want to be scrummaging around in a big bag for what you need.

The golden rule here is to keep makeup minimalist and use multitasking products that take you effortlessly from day to night. Think BB creams, waterproof mascaras, lip stains and glitter eye shadow. But before you beautify yourself for the day (and in order to create some serious Insta envy) you need to have some hardworking beauty heroes to hand.

Our top five essentials will ensure that you stay looking as fresh as the daisies in your obligatory headband.

Top Five Beauty Tips

  1. Skin saviours

Sun exposure, wind exposure, rain exposure. These are not the only elements working against you looking fresh at a festival. There’s also the lack of sleep, the alcohol intake, and the past-midnight, ill-conceived culinary choices to contend with. We recommend packing a few of our travel-friendly Correct & Calm Instant Facials. Smooth it onto cleansed skin and let the eucalyptus and witch hazel cool and comfort stressed-out complexions, reducing redness, skin irritation and large pores while hydrating and nourishing your skin back to life. After just 20 minutes, you’ll look like you’ve just stepped out of a spa, not a tent.

  1. Complexion correctors

Festivals are for having fun, not wasting time on your beauty routine. If you don’t already have one, we recommend investing in a BB cream so that you can successfully tick off a couple of steps with one multitasking product. These beauty heroes hydrate skin and perfect your complexion in one simple step – often with SPF included. Now a beauty staple in most women’s bathroom cabinets, BB creams were originally hail from South Korea. It’s here that Seoulista sources our sought-after skincare and innovative Instant Facials, which transform your skin in just 20 minutes. Watch this space for more beauty innovations to come!

  1. Germ busters

Let’s face it. Festivals are not the most hygienic of environments but there are some tricks to staying as clean as you can. A large pack of makeup wipes is another beauty essential and can be used to clean your body if showers are something of a scarcity – or too horrific to consider. We suggest packing a mini hand sanitizer in your bag (to use after a toilet stop or before tucking into a hotdog) and a mini deodorant to keep you smelling fresh, even if you’re in a mosh pit.

“When you’re at a festival, you have no access to your normal bathroom, hygiene products, you name it. But that’s no excuse for not keeping your skin clean. Wipes are great for this. I know they pose an environmental concern and I’d say you’re better off with a bottle and a cotton pad day to day if you can, but for festivals they’re essential.”

  1. Sun protection

Packing a high SPF sunscreen is an essential for any festival. Sun damage takes up to ten years to show on your skin, so make sure that you’re well protected. Remember to apply sunblock well before stepping a toe outside your tent, as it needs time to absorb before it can start bouncing those UVAs and UVBs bad boys. We’d also recommend getting a floppy festival hat – and wearing it like you own it!

“Don’t forget your SPF, especially on your face and neck. You need this from day one if you’re not going to end up seeing the results of sun damage when you’re in your forties. Whatever you do, don’t let yourself burn. And if you can’t remember your sunscreen for health reasons, think of the glitter. Festival glitter sticks brilliantly to sunscreen!”

  1. Hair heroes

We have two words for you. Dry shampoo. While Baptiste produce a travel-friendly mini that can meet most budgets, it may be worth splashing out a little more and going for Oribe’s legendary Dry Texturizing Spray (circa £10 for the mini). Not only is it infused with Oribe’s signature scent (which is, oh, so dreamy) but this clever hybrid absorbs excess oils and gives your hair gorgeously tousled texture, too.

The UK’s top four most glam festivals

Secret Garden Party

Abbots Ripton, Cambridgeshire. 20 to 23 July. £102 to £197.

Hidden in a wooded wonderland in the Cambridgeshire countryside, Secret Garden Party is the undisputed home of hippy hedonism on the UK festival scene. Stroll around this green oasis and stumble upon bands, DJs and artists tucked away on floating islands, in tree houses, or in everyone’s favourite hippie hideaway of the moment: the yurt. This year’s theme is all things celebrity, giving a more glitzy spin to the SGP’s normal woodland fairy-tale wardrobe, promising a much more fun, tongue-in-cheek experience.

Wilderness
Cornbury Park, Oxfordshire. 3 to 6 August. £168.50.

Mouth-watering cuisine, a croquet tournament and an open-air spa make Wilderness the ideal escapist playground for grown-ups. Each year, the programme of events and international acts has grown in calibre, with Björk headlining in 2015. Add in wild costume parties, awe-inspiring performance art, plus over 250 guest speakers from Vince Cable to Will Young, and Wilderness earns its reputation as much more than just a music festival.

Green Man Festival

Breacon Beacons, 17 to 20 August

If luxury massages, premium wood-fired saunas and hot tubs, hot showers and hair grooming facilities get a double thumbs up, then Green Man is the festival for you. Once you’re party prepped, you can jam to beats ranging from folk, Afrobeat, and hip hop to dance performed by acts such as Ride, Dojo, Anna Meredith, Anthony Joseph, and K.O.G & the Zongo Brigade. But there’s much more to Green Man than just music. With fresh meat sold daily, you can host barbeques, meet a new crew around the settlement bonfire, or zen out with a yoga class surrounded by forests, meadows, rivers, waterfalls and the soaring Breacon Beacons. When you’ve had your fill, curl up in your bell tent or yurt.

Bestival

Lulworth Cove, Dorset. 7 to 10 September. £125 to £265.

This year, everyone’s favourite festival is moving from the Isle of Wight to the new home of Camp Bestival – an enchanting wooded country estate on Dorset’s Jurassic Coast. Other breaking news for 2017 is that the Petshop Boys will be making a re-appearance among other big names, including Rag’n’Bone Man, Annie Mac and Dizzee Rascal. Apart from the star-studed line up, you can enjoy some healthy pursuits such as spin-class raving and euphoric yoga, or visit the inflatable church for a quickie festival marriage (thankfully, not legally binding).
